Indie Spotlight: Where The Bears Are .. Season 2

Today’s Indie Spotlight is a little different to the others. Instead of highlighting an Indiegogo or Kickstarter campaign, today I’m highlighting the smash hit web series “Where The Bears Are” season 1.

Where the Bears Are is a comedy mystery series telling the story of Nelson, Reggie, Wood and Hot Toddy. Nelson wakes the morning after his 5th 40th birthday party to a couple of major surprises. Firstly, Hot Toddy the bar tender from the Eagle is in bed with him, secondly J Cub, Hot Toddy’s flatmate is dead in Nelson’s bath tub.

When J Cub is found to be have been murdered, Nelson, Reggie and Wood set out to uncover the murderer all while Nelson begins a relationship with Hot Toddy.

Where the Bears Are is a great web series. All 25 episodes are hosted at www.wherethebearsare.tv along with some great extras and merchandise.

In order to fund a second season of this fantastic show the creative team behind Where the Bears Are are selling a recut movie length DVD of the first series, including never before seen extra’s, a smattering of nudity (apparently) and a special DVD only 20 minute Christmas Episode.

I’m a huge supporter of independent film and television as is well documented in here, and having watched the series online last night I had ordered the DVD before I’d seen the final episode.

The synopsis of Where The Bears Are says it best:

” From the creative team of Rick Copp (The Brady Bunch Movie) Joe Dietl (The Thin Pink Line) and Ben Zook (Jack and Jill) comes “Where the Bears Are,” a comedy mystery web series that follows the exploits of three gay bear roommates living together in Los Angeles, as they attempt to solve the murder of a party guest that turned up dead in their bathroom.

Part “Golden Girls” and part “Murder, She Wrote,” the series consists of 25 four-minute episodes, and is a romp through L.A.’s trendy neighborhood of Silver Lake, and whose mystery eventually reaches it’s climax in the desert outside of Palm Springs.

Featuring guest appearances by Bruce Daniels, Tuc Watkins, Jackie Beat, Brooke Dillman, Loretta Fox and Shawn Pelofsky, the series is designed to appeal to both gay and straight audiences alike, and will premiere online August 1st, 2012 at wherethebearsare.tv”

Where the Bears Are is a great way to while away some time, and is currently nominated as Best Web Series at afterelton.com. You can vote for the show here if you’re already a fan.

And for those who are yet to enjoy Where The Bears Are, here’s the first episode I found on Youtube. Check it out or go to www.wherethebearsare.tv and watch all 25 4 minute episodes like I did. It’s a great way to spend a quite night in.
