Indie Spotlight – Liam Brew

So last week I was trying to come up with a new feature and I decided a good one was to post an Independent Artist Spotlight. The whole purpose of Writing in Shadows is to discuss my own journey from creative sloth to successful independent author, so why not highlight other artists who are making the plunge to take control of their careers.

While I was on Facebook last weekend I came across a link to an indiegogo campaign for Australian Country Music singer Liam Brew and from seeing that campaign, a weekly series was born.

I’ve been quietly donating to various crowd funding campaigns over the past year, tweeting out the link, facebooking the link, sticking it up on Google+ – if anyone knows how to use Google+ please feel free to drop me a comment, frankly it feels like I’m talking to myself most of the time – but that’s where it’s ended.

The Indie Spotlight Series is my way of giving back to the community I hope to be a part of.

Anyway, about this week’s spotlight campaign. Frankly, Liam can say it better than I can so here is his pitch from Liam Brew 2nd Album

Hey

As you may know it’s been a VERY long 3 years since I last released an album back in 2009! I’ve been busy touring all around Australia with the likes of Adam Brand, James Blundell and The Sunny Cowgirls working on new songs and slowly but surely building my career. Firstly I’d like to thank everybody who has supported me so far, all the people who have come to my gigs, bought my albums/bought me a beer, requested my singles on radio or CMC or accidentally stumbled across me at a festival and thought “Who the hell is this dude?” I absolutely LOVE what I do and really enjoy getting out there and meeting all you people who enable us to play music for a living. The hard bit about that is finding the time and funds to record and release and new album. Ever since i walked out of the studio as a young 19 year old kid from the Sunshine Coast I was so excited about the thought of doing it all over again with a new bunch of songs. I’ve learned so much in the last few years, grown up a lot. At the start of this year I moved away from all my friends and family in Queensland to the big smoke in Sydney which has been, at times, a tough change. I’ve been down here saving money and getting ready for this new release and just cannot wait to get it out there to you and start touring back through all the cool towns I’ve come across and catch up with all the great people I’ve been lucky enough to meet along the way.

Getting through these final stages of recording have been a struggle financially and with so many people asking me about a release date I thought I would throw this out there and see if we can come up with some options to not only give all my friends out there who are fans of my music a ‘money-can’t-buy’ experience but also enable me to get this album released MUCH sooner than otherwise possible. I know it’s a lot to ask but hopefully we both can get something out of this and have some fun along the way! To the right you will see a bunch of packages that range from a basic pre order of my album up to me coming to play in your backyard. Either way, it is much appreciated.

I love you guys and really appreciate all the support you give me, can’t wait for you to hear these new songs 🙂

Liam.”

Here is a link to one of Liam’s songs, Doghouse which I really like.

Feel free to drop us a comment about the Indie Spotlight Series, is there any campaign you’d like to see highlighted? And of course, if you come across this post on Twitter, Facebook or Google+ feel free to share, like, RT or +1 (really someone explain the benefits of Google+ to me.

And don’t forget to pop over to Liam Brew 2nd Album and check out the contribution perks and if your interested donate to help fund Liam Brew 2nd Album
